A well-made custom hat with your logo gets worn everywhere — job sites, grocery stores, Little League games. It's one of the highest-impression branded items a business can order. Here's how to get it right.
Hat styles to know
Structured Front Panel Cap (Classic Baseball Cap)
The most popular style for business logos. A stiff front panel holds the embroidery flat and makes logos look sharp. Available in fitted, snapback, and flexfit closures. Best for: contractors, trade crews, sports teams, company events.
Unstructured Dad Hat
Softer, more relaxed look. The front panel curves naturally without stiffening. Popular for retail brands and lifestyle companies. Logos need to be slightly larger to read well on a softer surface. Best for: restaurants, retail, casual brands.
Trucker Hat
Mesh back panels, foam front. Very popular in outdoor, agricultural, and blue-collar industries. The foam front takes embroidery well. Best for: farms, outdoor companies, casual contractor branding.
Beanie
For cold-weather crews. Embroidery on a knit beanie requires a topping (a backing material that keeps stitches from sinking into the knit). Results are good but the logo will be slightly raised. Best for: winter crews, outdoor workers, ski resort staff.
Decoration: embroidery is the standard
For hats, embroidery is almost always the right choice. It's durable, looks professional, and is expected on quality headwear. Screen print and DTF can be done on hat panels but they're less common and don't hold up as well to outdoor use and repeated washing.
For embroidery artwork requirements, read our guide on how to prepare artwork for custom printing. Keep your hat logo to 2-3 colors for best results — fine details and gradients don't translate well to embroidery on curved surfaces.
Logo placement on hats
- Front center: The standard. Works for most logos.
- Front left/right panel: For smaller logos or secondary elements.
- Side panel: Good for a second logo or wordmark.
- Back: URL, phone number, or tagline. Less common but effective.
- Undervisor: A fun brand detail that only the wearer sees.
Sizing and fit
Flexfit hats (stretch fabric, no adjustable closure) come in S/M and L/XL and fit most head sizes. Snapback and adjustable hats are one-size-fits-most. For a crew order, adjustable or flexfit is the way to go — you don't have to worry about individual head sizes.
Minimum order and lead time
Most hat orders start at 12 pieces minimum. Standard turnaround is 10-15 business days from artwork approval. Rush service is available — call us to confirm availability. Read our guide on rush orders for more on fast turnaround options.
💡 Hats are one of the best-ROI branded items you can order. A quality hat worn by a crew member or happy customer generates impressions for years. Don't cheap out on the blank — a better hat gets worn more.
